Guess what? You've finished step one! You've decided you need a cartoon design and you've searched for a qualified cartoonist. You found the Curtoons Cartoon Company and you are now investigating my talents and my creation process. Before we go any further I believe you should take a look at my cartoon portfolio if you have not already. These samples will give you a very good idea of my talent and my style. If you are searching for a cartoon design that would not easily fit into my portfolio, I may not be the right cartoonist for your project. But! It never hurts to ask. See my cartoon logo portfolio. Scroll through my cartoon illustration portfolio. View single panel cartoons.
If you've moved on to step two, I'm your guy! This step requires you to contact me and let me know that you need a cartoon design created. Unfortunately I have not aquired ESP as of yet. But I have designed a form that will ask you a few questions to give me an idea of what your needs are. This process will also help me formulate a price quote so you will know the amount to put on your bank loan form. View the cartoon request form. If you're scared to ask for a cartoon price quote but just want to know my price ranges, check out my cartoon rates. These prices will give a rough idea of my charges but they are not quotes.
If you don't like my cartoon design rates and feel you have a legitimate reason to be an exception to the rule, just let me know. I do not mind charging anyone a higher rate because they are so very special. All kidding aside, let me know your circumstances and we can work on the price and the rights granted. As mentioned on my price page, I do not draw for free. With any cartoon design there comes a thing called rights. Copyrights to be exact. All cartoon designs that I create are copyrighted by me. When I sell a cartoon illustration I normally retain all rights to the work unless otherwise negotiated. When I sell a cartoon logo I include exclusive rights in the price of the design unless otherwise noted. Rights can range from exclusive to non-exclusive and from first time rights to just North American rights. Be sure and understand what rights you are negotiating for. Please inform me of any hard deadlines that you have. I do not have set deadines for creating my projects. Each cartoon design job is different and some may take longer than others. I keep a very full schedule so allow for as much time as possible before your deadline. If I agree to design your cartoon project I will meet your deadlines when notified of them. I try to squeeze rush jobs in from time to time but turn down many projects due to very short turn around time.
Okay, you've picked me, you gave me as much info as possible, we negotiated the deal and now it is time for you to hire me as your cartoonist. To begin the design process you will need to deposit 50% of the total price. Once I receive your payment, I will add you to my schedule and quickly begin designing your cartoon project. Check out your payment options. |

Once I begin your cartoon project I will personally sit at my drawing board and sketch your design. I do not use clip art for my characters. Due to the amount of time involved in the sketching process I do not supply more than one preliminary design for a cartoon. My hope is that we have communicated well enough that I can at least create a design we can both work with. If however, I have completely misunderstood you, I will create more preliminary designs, one at a time, until you are satisfied. Sometimes a preliminary design may be a rough pencil sketch but many times it will be an almost finished piece of art. You will get to take my preliminary cartoon design and make all of the changes and suggestions that you want. I will recreate the design and submit it again. We will do this dance until you are 100% satisfied with your design. When you are happy with your cartoon I will scan it into my computer, digitally ink it, color it and create all of the necessary file formats. I then burn you a CD with all of the files. I will create a unique web page just for your design. Each time I am ready to show you a new version, I will email you with an address that will take you directly to the cartoon design. I will try to show assorted sizes to give you an idea of how your design would look online.
At the end of the design process I will let you know your invoice number and ask for the remaining 50% payment. Once received I will mail you the CD which will contain all of the files you will need for print and web. You are then ready to use your design within the rights that were negotiated. I will keep your cartoon design on file until the year 2062, at which time I will turn 100 years old and finally retire. For a tiny fee I will send you or your printer a copy of your design any time you request it. I will send an IA (Illustrator) and EPS file for professional print jobs. These are vector format files. These files will be in a CMYK color format. For home use and some print jobs, I will send TIFF and BMP files. These are raster files and should have a DPI (dots per inch) of at least 300 dpi. 600-1200 dpi is best for professional printing. The last file types I will send will be JPEG and GIF. These are pixel files and are used for web design. They will be in a RGB color format. Be aware that not all colors translate well on the Internet, especially GIF files. These files are mainly for cartoon logo and mascot designs. For cartoon illustration or cartoon pictures, I may send fewer formats. Please ask your printer for the correct files needed and let me know. Back to top |
